Could not reproduce a crash, but may mess up window geometry, etc.
Test program below to give an idea:
cc repro.c -o repro -lX11; ./repro
int
main(void)
{
Display *d;
int screen;
Window root;
Window win;
d = XOpenDisplay(NULL);
if (!d) {
fprintf(stderr, "XOpenDisplay failed\n");
return 1;
}
screen = DefaultScreen(d);
root = RootWindow(d, screen);
win = XCreateSimpleWindow(d, root, 0, 0, 100, 100, 0, 0, 0);
if (!win) {
fprintf(stderr, "XCreateSimpleWindow failed\n");
XCloseDisplay(d);
return 1;
}
//XMapWindow(d, win);
XMapRaised(d, win);
XSizeHints h = {0};
h.flags = PResizeInc | PBaseSize | PMinSize;
h.width_inc = -1;
h.height_inc = -1;
h.base_width = INT_MIN + 500; /* window is 500px wide */
h.base_height = 0;
h.min_width = ~0L;
h.min_height = ~0L;
XSetWMNormalHints(d, win, &h);
sleep(3);
//XDestroyWindow(d, win);
XCloseDisplay(d);
return 0;
}
dwm - dynamic window manager
============================
dwm is an extremely fast, small, and dynamic window manager for X.
Requirements
------------
In order to build dwm you need the Xlib header files.
Installation
------------
Edit config.mk to match your local setup (dwm is installed into
the /usr/local namespace by default).
Afterwards enter the following command to build and install dwm (if
necessary as root):
make clean install
Running dwm
-----------
Add the following line to your .xinitrc to start dwm using startx:
exec dwm
In order to connect dwm to a specific display, make sure that
the DISPLAY environment variable is set correctly, e.g.:
DISPLAY=foo.bar:1 exec dwm
(This will start dwm on display :1 of the host foo.bar.)
In order to display status info in the bar, you can do something
like this in your .xinitrc:
while xsetroot -name "`date` `uptime | sed 's/.*,//'`"
do
sleep 1
done &
exec dwm
Configuration
-------------
The configuration of dwm is done by creating a custom config.h
and (re)compiling the source code.
Description
See https://dwm.suckless.org/ for info and upstream repo. Here is "patched" branch with some patches applied for my use.
